Nancy Barton, J72

About her

As the highest ranking legal professional at GE Capital, Nancy Barton held managerial responsibility for all significant legal matters in a large and diversified financial services business. Now retired and living in Greenwich, Conn., she devotes her time to researching her genealogical roots and to travel around the world "to experience the amazing variation in cultures, lifestyles, animal and plant life, and physical beauty." She is a member of the Board of Visitors at Boston University School of Law and a generous benefactor of the Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences & Engineering.

Why she gives to Tufts

"The university needs help from all of its alumni, whatever their ability to give back. The Tufts Fund provides a suitable vehicle for donations of all sizes, creating a source of funding, to be allocated at the discretion of President Bacow, for whatever priorities may exist. The Packard Society recognizes the valuable contributions of $1,000 or more.

"I had a memorable four years at Tufts. Through involvement in alumni affairs and the Tufts Fund, I have been privileged to stay in touch with the university and to watch it grow and thrive. Tufts is recognized as one of the best schools in the country: its professors are second to none, and devote significant time to students; today's students are so highly qualified they are awe-inspiring; and the expanding campus has maintained the beauty and traditions of the Hill. All of this takes money, and lots of it: Among our goals should be an endowment sufficient to ensure need-blind admissions, to continue the university's commitment to educational opportunity to all, irrespective of economic background."
