Budd Challenge: $11.5 million goal in sight for Friedman School

The Budd Challenge will soon be drawing to a close, and with your help the Friedman School will have raised $11.5 million toward its endowment.

Tufts Trustee Emeritus Edward H. Budd, A55, a member and former chairman of the Board of Overseers at the Friedman School, issued his challenge in 2003. He pledged $1.5 million if others would give $10 million over the next five years to strengthen the school's endowment.

He issued his challenge to "provide a stimulus to other donors and help jump-start this effort to build up the Friedman School's endowment," which he said was vital to "provide economic stability and also fund scholarships and research."

The significance of the Budd Challenge lies in its enduring impact on the school's health. A strong endowment is the bedrock of any institution, providing long-term strength to weather any challenges, address future opportunities, and fund priorities like student financial aid.
