Tufts and Fletcher were highly attractive when I was looking at Ph.D. programs because the faculty and academic community support scholarship that transcends intellectual boundaries. This is a significant competitive advantage and the wave of the future. When I proposed to study the role of Lloyd's of London as a transnational actor in international relations, I was struck by how well it was received by faculty of diplomacy, security studies, maritime studies, business, and international law. Almost no other university offers this type of interdisciplinary and global perspective. Tufts also is a very personal place the faculty provide worldclass mentoring, which I have experienced firsthand through Fletcher's Maritime Studies Program.
