Raised in Colorado by her widowed grandmother, Angela has known for a long, long time that she wanted to be a doctor. With a double major in psychology and biomedical engineering, she hasn’t chosen her precise path in medicine yet, but her passion for redressing health care disparities will surely shape her life. She’s now a fellow in the Health Career Opportunities Program (HCOP) at Tufts. And she’s encouraging other aspiring physicians as well, as head tutor in three subjects at the Academic Resource Center and founding president of the Tufts chapter of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS). In a great Tufts tradition, Angela will be a doctor with an inspiring menu of other interests: she also serves as president of Essence (one of the six a cappella groups on campus) and publishes frequently in Onyx, the College’s black literary magazine.

Angela’s high school accomplishments made her Tufts education possible; her financial aid package of grants, loans, and work study made it real. “I will leave Tufts with no loans,” says Angela—leaving her free to work wherever she can make the biggest difference.
