About the Campaign
Beyond Boundaries: the Campaign for Tufts is a university-wide campaign that will raise $1.2 billion for financial aid, endowed professorships, new research facilities, and initiatives in citizenship and public service, among other priorities.
The campaign aims to raise 60 percent of the total goal for Tufts' endowment, which stood at $1.5 billion as of June 30, 2007. The endowment provides the university with the confidence and the resources to implement strategic but often costly priorities and capital enhancements.
Tufts is off to a great start. The campaign has already raised more than $743 million—or 62 percent—of the campaign's goal since its "quiet phase" began in July 2002.
Beyond Boundaries, publicly announced on November 3, 2006, and concluding in 2011, will make Tufts stronger, more accessible and even more effective. It is also an opportunity to dramatically enhance the university's ability to serve the world. These aspirations reflect and build on three distinctive Tufts strengths:
Educating for leadership and active citizenship
At Tufts, we prepare and inspire our students to seek the responsibilities of leadership in their professions, in their communities, and in the world. It's a concept promoted through the efforts of the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service, a university-wide initiative that has become a model for institutions across the country.
Instilling a global perspective
The Tufts experience is strikingly global: 40 percent of Tufts' students study abroad. Our students also join the Peace Corps at one of the highest rates of any American university. And of our current undergraduate and professional school students, 1,179 hail from one of 109 countries other than the United States, allowing all our students to provide a living, breathing, global education for each other.
Fostering discovery through collaboration
Although every serious American research university is promoting and investing in the life sciences, not one begins with our uniquely powerful mix of hospitals and professional schools. Combine their strengths with our breadth of expertise in the liberal arts, and the global connections and insights of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and we have a powerhouse of possibility. Multiply their effectiveness through our culture of fearless cross-disciplinary collaboration, and we have a vital force for world change.
We are leaping the boundaries of our own expectations; all we need now is the vision, enthusiasm, and generosity of our alumni and friends. Join us on the pioneering journey ahead.
